“I met Ms. Karen at my eldest son's private school in 2014 and later reached out privately and eventually hired her as my two younger children's homeschool teacher. Over the last 8 years, she has supported us from school to homeschooling and during our relocation from Hong Kong to Melbourne. She has aligned my kids learning needs to the changing benchmarks and we collaborate regularly. My kids graded 2 academic years ahead when we were ready to go back into school and she has written recommendation letters and compiled all their learning evidence for school entry. Her ability to plan and teach both in-person and online have allowed my children to live a fun and flexible lifestyle while staying curious and passionate about learning. I would absolutely recommend her to other students and parents!”

“Ms. Karen has taught my son since Grade 3 and will continue to be his University writing teacher! She's not only tutored him all these years but helped us with university planning and applications and he's now going to Glasgow University! She's helped us beyond a subject tutor and I could not have imagined our journey without her. She's caring, passionate, and a natural as she adapted from when my son was 8 until now being a teenager at 18! She even sent my son a graduation gift and I am so grateful. I never had to worry because everything was covered and she'd send me screenshots of their lessons. From my son's mindset, understanding and how to plan his time and energy, covering many of his core and elective subjects as the years went on. He's matured a lot under her mentorship and teaching and I am so glad we found her online many years ago now.”

About Ms. Karen

With 15+ years of experience across diverse educational settings, Ms. Karen is a B.C. and Hong Kong certified teacher. Multi-faceted and trilingual, she offers K–12 subject tutoring, IEP support and advocacy, post-secondary roadmaps and applications, and homeschool pathways. She has also taught English as a Second Language, and one of her specialities is building Math confidence between Grades 3–10, turning steep climbs into a leisurely walk.

Following her passions led her to teach, train, and program-manage in both public and private institutions: from working in inclusive classrooms to teaching in international schools, and even leading a Math program launch at a new tutoring centre. She has also taught English to both young and adult learners and has volunteered across many youth, community, and welfare programs. Her students come from all walks of life. She finds joy when a student lights up, especially when guiding them through moments that require a bit of grit, a new perspective, and practice. Instilling a growth mindset, along with safety and humour, is where she thrives.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver from the age of four, Ms. Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Sunderland. She is also TESOL-certified and speaks English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

She works on call with the school board besides tutoring and provides care for her elderly parents. Outside of teaching, she enjoys walking in nature, spending time with loved ones, watching the sunset, and cooking. She has visited over 30 countries and is a proud mom to a 21-year-old meow!
